About the East Toronto Family Practice Network
The mission of the East Toronto Family Practice Network (EasT-FPN) represents the voices of primary care providers in East Toronto and integrate their skills, knowledge, and talents in partnership to support the design and implementation of health systems for the East Toronto community. EasT-FPN currently has over 240 members and has evolved rapidly since its inception in June 2019, in response to an identified need for a voice from the family practice community and through its subsequent partnership with East Toronto Health Partners.
The EasT-FPN Board of Directors is composed of a diverse group of volunteers who work and/or live in East Toronto and strive to reflect the diversity of family practice and the communities it serves.
About the Opportunity
As a not-for-profit organization focused on empowering East Toronto communities, EasT-FPN is seeking Board directors who will contribute to the effective governance and leadership of the organization in a volunteer capacity.
The EasT-FPN is recruiting Board members with skills and experience in:
Finance: Experience analyzing, interpreting, and understanding financial statements, budgets, and financial reporting.
Legal: Assist the organization in understanding legal matters and compliance with legislation.
Governance: Experience with board governance acquired through prior board or committee service, including an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the board.
Leadership: Understanding the importance of leadership and teamwork to the success of the Board, and the ability to recognize and value the contributions of fellow board members, EasT-FPN staff, and stakeholders (e.g., members).
Strategic Thinking: Ability to think strategically about the priorities, opportunities, and challenges facing EasT-FPN, and experience supporting planning processes that help not-for-profit organizations achieve their vision and mission.
Community residents, nurse practitioners, solo practitioners, and Community Health Centre clinicians are especially encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities
Actively participate in decision-making at Board meetings.
Advise on and advance the EasT-FPN strategic plan and organizational priorities, and contribute to setting organizational direction.
Foster and maintain communication between the Board and EasT-FPN staff.
Participate in and provide leadership on Board committees (e.g., Finance Committee, Governance Committee), and serve on ad-hoc committees as necessary.
Strive to represent and support the interests of EasT-FPN members and East Toronto communities.
Meetings & Time Commitment
Successful candidates must be able to commit 2 - 5 hours per month to meetings and Board-related work on behalf of EasT-FPN.
The Board of Directors meets every other month (on the fourth Wednesday; meeting date/time is subject to change) for two-hour meetings. Directors will be asked to attend the Annual General Meeting.
Length of Term
The EasT-FPN is seeking Board members to commit to a three-year term, starting September 2026.
