Toronto Public Health Updates

Pool of Mosquitoes in Toronto Test Positive for West Nile Virus.

TPH recommends the following during the summer months:

Please consider WNV in your differential diagnosis when individuals present with clinically compatible signs and symptoms. WNV symptoms usually start to show between two and 14 days after a person is bitten by an infected mosquito. More information:

Two new pneumococcal vaccines will be used in Ontario’s publicly funded immunization program to provide broader protection against invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD)

TPH is alerting health care providers that beginning July 29, 2024, two new pneumococcal vaccines will be used in Ontario’s publicly funded immunization program to provide broader protection against invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD)

Summary of Changes:

TPH advises:

  • Health care providers should use up their current supply of Pneu-C-13 and Pneu-P-23 before transitioning to the newer products. Vaccine orders for Pneu-C-15 and Pneu-C-20 can be made using the Requisition for Biological Supplies Form

  • Children or adults who received all eligible publicly funded doses of pneumococcal vaccines are not eligible for additional dose(s) of the newer vaccine, at this time.

  • For pneumococcal vaccine dosing schedule refer to the Publicly Funded Immunization Schedules for Ontario
